Galatians 2:20

2 Timothy 4:6-8

Pastor’s Main Points

  • Faith is a gift to us from God and must be treasured.
  • Our faith does not determine which trials we will go through or whether or not God brings a miracle.
  • Our struggle is not to have faith, but rather to be faithful (leaning on our source of faith) in every situation.

Pastor’s Closing Questions

  • Do I have faith in Jesus Christ given to me by the goodness of God?
  • How is my faith being called into action?

Pointed Questions from the Sermon

Pastor Adam told us about a conversation that he had with someone regarding the state of the world who suggested believers have an even bigger platform to share our beliefs than ever before. Why do you think this may be true, despite the world pulling further away from the values of God?

  • What do you think this shows us about how God can lead us to use everyday circumstances to point to Him?
  • How do you think our trust in God can grow knowing that He will use every situation to His glory?

Pastor Adam reminded us that we experience the miraculous everyday. What might be a couple specific areas of your life that you’ve recently experienced?

  • Why do you think we often miss the miraculous works that God does in our everyday lives?
  • Why do you think we are disappointed when the miraculous work that God does in our lives does not meet our ideals?

Read Ephesians 2:8-9 and Galatians 2:19-20. Why do you think knowing that we do not have to work for our faith gives us comfort in our daily lives?

  • Paul, in Galatians, tells us that we have been crucified with Christ. What do you think Paul is trying to say?
  • Even though we have died to self, why do you think we have trouble letting Christ lead us when we are to be letting Him live through us?
  • How is letting Christ live through you different from having a passive faith?

Read 2 Timothy 4:6-8. Paul says he has “kept the faith.” What do you think Paul means by this?

  • Paul also says that he has “fought the good fight.” Is this different than ‘keeping the faith,’ and if so, what do you think this means in light of the idea of keeping the faith?
  • Paul is telling us in these verses that this is what faith in action looks like, which helps us to understand that we are to desperately cling to our faith. How do you think we are able to do this when we cannot physically cling onto our faith?
  • Read 1 Timothy 6:11-12. What kind of faith are we being called to have?
  • In what specific ways do you think you can have a more active faith?

What might be one or two ways this week that you can die to yourself and rely totally on God’s providence in your life knowing that he will provide you with enough faith to get you through every situation?

Next Week’s Sermon Preview

Next Sunday Pastor Adam will talk about how Jesus is the best example of faith. He had faith in God despite what He had to go through because of the joy that was set before Him.
