  • Are you selling out your birthright for the present visible temporary or are you striving for the invisible eternal?

Pointed Questions from the Sermon

Sam used the analogy of an eye to draw out the point that we are to pursue peace together and the idea that we are called to be one body. Why do you think this is valuable?

  • In what ways do you think our differences become a good thing, and how do these differences enable us to each have a different role in the body?

Read Romans 8:6-7. Why do you think the mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God?

  • Why do you think that being against God is considered war and not just a differing of opinion?
  • What do you think it means for us that God is the one that is offering peace?

Read Matthew 7:15-23. What does the Bible give as examples of good fruit? What are some specific examples of these in your life this past week?

  • What are the implications of someone that does not produce these fruits of the Spirit?
  • What kinds of fruit is someone going to bear if they are not bearing the fruits of the Spirit and what are some examples?

Read 1 John 2:15-17. Why do you think that we cannot love both the world and God? Why do you think we naturally want to love the world?

  • Read Heb. 12:16-17. Why do you think it is better for us to desire our birthright than to desire the things of this world?
  • How do you think the things of this world contrast to that of God?

What are some ways that you find yourself selling out for the lesser, immediate pleasures of this world, and what are some specific ways this week you can instead choose holiness and the peace of Christ?
